The Great Kudu is the source of this fine instrument. From Africa, this breed of antelope has magnificent horns that are harvested, shipped to Israel, and then turned into worship instruments in our own production facility in the Negev.
These horns are harvested two times a year and premiums are placed on the horns that are longer than 40 inches in length (measured around the curve of the horn). Typically, the longer the horn the easier it is to blow and the richer the sound. However, due to our manufacturing standards all of our horns, regardless of length, produce wonderful tones and you will get at least three notes from each horn and up to seven notes from some.
Like any instrument, to become proficient requires practice. These horns are no exception. Over time, you will be able to play more notes and perhaps even a few songs on your horn. The unique sound of the Great Kudu horn is unforgettable!
While not indigenous to Israel, the Kudu horn is the most popular horn today outside of Israel. This is due to the unique sound, beautiful look, and ease of playing these horns yield.
